LEXINGTON- Monday night marked the second meeting of the Ridge View Blazers and the Lexington Wildcats in this year’s double elimination state playoff tournament. The Blazers beat the defending state champions 4-2 in Game 1 last Thursday, highlighted by a three-run seventh inning rally. But the momentum changed course this past Saturday when Ridge VIew lost to Goose Creek 5-0 and Lexington stomped Beaufort 11-1 in five innings, resulting in the rematch.
The Wildcats carried the momentum into last night's game, shutting out the Blazers 7-0.
The Blazers just could not catch a break. A pair of fielding errors combined with few hits led to Ridge View’s demise. Through the course of the game, the Blazers got on base five times off three singles and two walks.
On the other hand, Lexington could not be stopped. The Wildcats hit every inning, racking up a total of 12 hits for the evening. Lexington scored all seven runs in the first three innings of play. Ryan Brown went 3-3, scoring in the first and second; Brice Kirven went 2-4, driving in three runs-two in the second inning and one in the third.
The Wildcats also displayed strong defense, turning three double plays in the first, second and fifth innings.
Lexington will advance to play Goose Creek at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
